How to apply essential oils correctly? How to avoid an allergic reaction?

Essential oils have a history of safe and effective use for everything from personal hygiene and cooking to emotional perks and health benefits. If you use the right amount of pure essential oils, they will be fully utilized in your home or family.

If you use essential oils yourself, it is imperative that you carefully read and follow the instructions in the package insert that comes with each product if you do not follow these tips. Essential oils must be handled with care, respecting the recommended doses and administering them drop by drop.

Preventions for using essential oils

Do not use orally without medical supervision. If accidentally swallowed, consult a doctor. Do not use directly on the skin, they should always be diluted in the vehicle, usually vegetable oil, before applying to the skin.

Wash your hands well after handling and avoid contact with the eyes and mucous membranes as it may cause irritation. If it comes into contact with eyes, rinse thoroughly with water for about 2 minutes. Apply vegetable oil for 2 minutes, 10 minutes. Allergy sufferers should perform a tolerance test by applying a few drops to the crease of the elbow.

Citrus oils can cause photosensitivity reactions, so avoid exposure to sunlight after application. As a general rule of thumb for topical use, use 2% essential oil and 98% carrier oil.

Make sure the oil you use is a chemically treated oil. Its biochemical composition is determined and the main active molecules are identified. Maintain optimal storage conditions, such as protection from light, heat, and oxygen.

Allergies to essential oils

If you are sensitive to essential oils, there are some adjustments you can make to avoid further sensitivity or discomfort. Sensitivity to essential oils is not the same as an allergic reaction, so essential oils can be used for other uses.

If you become sensitive after taking essential oils internally, you can still use aromatherapy or apply them topically. Sensitivity to essential oils can also be due to dosage. If you have ever been sensitive to a particular essential oil, dilute the oil or simply take a lower dose to see if your sensitivity is caused by a higher dose.

Sensitivity to Aromatic Essential Oils

If you inhale the diffuser and have a reaction, turn it off immediately and move away from it. If you cannot leave the area, open windows or vents to increase air circulation. Seek medical attention if sensitization is severe or persistent, or if you experience difficulty breathing.

Sensitivity to Topical Essential Oils

Irritated areas can be soothed with a carrier oil like grated coconut oil. Wipe the area with a soft cloth to remove and remove as much oil as possible.

Alternate adding coconut oil and gently rub the area. The skin takes time to settle; this can take hours, days or weeks depending on the severity of the body's reaction to the allergen and the amount of oil used. If the allergic reaction is severe or worsens over time, seek immediate medical attention.
